Prestwick Airport History
The land that is now Prestwick International Airport can be linked back to 1913 only a few years after the Wright Brothers took to the air.
In the pre-war years, the Prestwick International Airport site developed as a training airfield. As the war developed, Prestwick International Airport grew into a major airport as a staging point for the delivery of new aircraft from America.
Prestwick International Airport was granted major investment by the government in 1958 including a new terminal and runway extension. The new development at Prestwick International Airport was officially opened by the Queen in 1962.
